Joaquin Torres Garcia (28 July 1874 – 8 August 1949), was a Uruguayan plastic artist and art theorist, also known as the founder of Constructive Universalism. He proposed a return to figuration, rescuing the use of constructivism and using the cultural symbology of the native Indians.

Zahariy Hristovich Dimitrov (1810–1853), better known as Zahari Zograf (or Zachari Zograf) is arguably the most famous Bulgarian painter of the Bulgarian National Revival, noted for his church mural paintings and icons and often regarded as the founder of secular art in Bulgaria due to the introduction of everyday life elements in his work.
